01 / From story to sculpture

Strength.
Fragility.

The distance between a giant and a puppet fits entirely in one hand.

Mangiafuoco and Pinocchio: two figures from the same tale, two presences of opposite scale. In Salvatore Troiano’s sculpture, the large face and small body meet in the dark space around them.

The story can be read through three details: the gaze, the hand and the puppet. Pause on each of them.

Details from the original photograph
01

A gaze
that holds us.

The marked forehead, the eyes, the beard extending into space. Mangiafuoco’s expression rests in his face: come closer to follow every fold of the surface.

02

A hand.
An entire story.

The fingers curve around the small puppet. Veins, knuckles and cuff make the gesture present, almost alive. Here, the difference in scale becomes an encounter.

03

Small,
at the centre of everything.

Open arms, a pale body and suspended legs. Pinocchio interrupts Mangiafuoco’s warm tones and draws the eye toward the hand supporting him.
